Ever since somebody at CNN who's probably never been to the Middle East sta=
rted pronouncing it that way !
However, I've never heard any Arab say it that way.
The correct pronunciation should use a guttural "G" with emphasis on the fi=
rst syllable, something like "GA-tar"
Words transliterated into English with a "Q" can be pronounced as a "G" or =
"K" or somewhere in between.

Can someone tell me, at what point did the Middle-East country of Qatar
become know in the Americas as "cutter"???
I notice recently all the media refer to it as "cutter" as opposed to
"katar" as it was previously referred to. Can anyone shed some light on what
the proper pronunciation is.
