For instance, Manifold.net uses Apache as their web server[1]. But they
have to serve their maps using Microsoft IIS[2]. Clearly a case by case
choice.

[1] http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?host=manifold.net

"The site manifold.net is running Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) PHP/4.3.0 on
unknown."

I.e an open source HTTP server. Not a bad choice when you want a
modern HTTP server, used by 62.57 percent of the 25090844 web sites
surveyed in April by Netcraft.

[2] http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?host=exchange.manifold.net

"The site exchange.manifold.net is running Microsoft-IIS/5.0 on
Windows 2000."

I.e. a popular Microsoft product with a 27.45% share.
