Subject: RE: GISList: overview of GIS industry growth
Date:  05/13/2003 08:10:01 PM
From:  Anthony Quartararo

www.gita.org publishes a good report of the utilities industry. I'll
mention the IDC & Gartner reports that try to grasp this, but both these
reports, well, are "all hat and no cattle" as they say in Texas (IMHO).
Both Directionsmag.com and Geocomm.com have some resources, as well as the
GIS Monitor. The major software vendors probably have sponsored reports
that they may allow you to review, however, their numbers no doubt would
need to be tempered and calibrated against reality. I don't know that I
would really describe the growth as "explosive" however you slice it though.
Also, "recent" as in the past 3 years, has been more like "implosive" rather
than "explosive". To my knowledge, a truly comprehensive, global
perspective does not exist. Those companies that have done it, probably
have not released it for general consumption because it is incredibly
valuable. Sounds like a good research project for someone within the ranks
of AAG.

Best Regards,

Anthony Quartararo
