Subject: GISList: summary file 1 & 3 data
Date:  05/19/2003 01:05:01 PM
From:  epoulsen .. eden.rutgers.edu

Hello!

I need census data help too.

I have been ftping the census summary files for data I need from both sf1
and sf3.

I can bring them into access using the special tricks and can export the
fields I need into a dbf using query and export. I had also just limited
the data to select those where the block group <> "" (not equal to
nothing) so I will only have the data for block groups to make the
resulting table less unmanageable.

I understand that when I link up my exported dbf file to the block groups
shape file (based on the stfid, that I had to create for my exported data)
it will link one to many because of the exported data has the blocks. Now
my question is, when I compared this to sf1 data I got from ESRI the
values for the fields don't match and some of my values are 0 when there
should be values. If I sum up the blocks, they don't match, and there the
0 values still.

Can anyone tell what I am doing wrong?
Does anyone know of a free software product that I could use that would
help?

Thank you!!
