Subject: GISList: Sharing MXD files
Date:  05/23/2003 01:25:00 PM
From:  Kris Kolodziej

Hello list,

I would appreciate any advice/leads regarding the sharing of map documents
(MXD). The problems are related to differing path and printer definitions
from one user to another, for example, see the following user forum
discussions:

http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=992&t=86543#237216
http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=989&t=85869#248753
http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=989&t=88841#244441
http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=992&t=90991#251005

I found some workarounds by using relative path names and uninstalling
printers, but that doesn't seem to be a very good long-term solution.
I've also found that the full path of a template is saved even when the
data source is set as relative paths, so my client cannot open an MXD
using templates.

Thanks in advance!

Kris
