Subject: RE: GISList: MrSID images to tiff format
Date:  05/30/2003 09:50:01 AM
From:  Kevin Kleinjan

Santosh,

It may not be an option to you, but the current version of AutoCad Map
(or Land Development Desktop 3 or higher if you have that) now supports
MrSID images. If you can afford the upgrade, it'll quickly pay for
itself if you do much of this type of thing at all. We do it daily and
were always suffering from the same size expansion when going to the
TIFF format that you described. Now that we can natively reference the
MrSID images, life (and storage space on the hard drive) is much
simpler.

One option is to change the resolution when exporting from Mr Sid
Geoviewer (free from LizardTech) - by default, the resolution is 1:1,
but I often drop it to 8:1 (1/8 the pixels). Depending on your
application, this may work. Another option is to export to tif at full
resolution, then convert the image to a compressed format that your CAD
program can read (jpg, if possible - I am not familiar w/ ACAD Map).

Hi all,

I have some images in MrSID format( approx size 7 MB each)
Since I have Autocad Map which doesnt support MrSID image formats,
I set about converting these images to tiff. But then this tiff size
increases by 10 times( almost 70 Mb).
I need some image manipulation tips/software so as to ---

1. Convert MrSID images to tiff.
2. Maintain tiff image sizes same as that of MrSID images.

My main intention is load these MrSID images into Autocad Map and also
maintain
image sizes less than 15 Mb.

I will sum.

Thanks in advance.

Santosh
