Subject: GISList: GRIDPAINT & ArcMap displays
Date:  06/04/2003 04:15:01 PM
From:  Gordon, Heather C.

Dear listers,
Perhaps you've come across this problem before: if so, I'd appreciate your
help. I've tried this question already on ESRI-L, with nary a reply.
Hopefully, I'm being clear.
I have ArcGIS 8.3, and a grid and spatial analyst license. I have no image
processing software. For a series of maps, I want to drape soils on a
hillshade in ArcMap. However, without 3D analyst, I had to download an aml
to perform this drape
(http://www.or.blm.gov/gis/mapping/techniques/presentations/painted_relief/n
ewrelief.asp). The usage is:
&run newrelief.aml <outgrid> <ingrid> <incolor.lut> <hillshade-grid>
The input grid is the categorical (soils) data. The incolor.lut is a lookup
table, with values that correspond to the soils, and 3 columns that
represent red, green, and blue.
The output displays beautifully in ArcPlot using this command reference:
gridpaint %outgrid% value identity nowrap %outgrid%.lut
How on earth to I get that lovely display in ArcMap? Basically, there are 3
columns that correspond to RGB in the outgrid.lut, but how do I get ArcMap
to read those colors?
Thanks for your help!
Heather Gordon
