Hi Heather,
I just used the same AML myself -- I don't know how to do it in ArcMap (which I hardly ever use), but I exported it the grid (with the three r,g,b columns) to an image using:
(in ArcInfo workstation grid) grid_r = outgrid.r grid_g = outgrid.g grid_b = outgrid.b makestack grid2 list grid_r grid_g grid_b (quit, and go to plain arc) gridimage grid2 # outimage bmp
Then you will get an image, which is properly registered (with a world file), that you can open in ArcMap or other GIS software. Or do what I do, re-touch it in Photoshop and then upload to an SDE... Note that ArcGIS offers to build pyramids for the image, so that you can get faster display.
/Hugo

I've tried this question already on ESRI-L, with nary a reply. | Hopefully, I'm being clear. | I have ArcGIS 8.3, and a grid and spatial analyst license. I | have no image | processing software. For a series of maps, I want to drape soils on a | hillshade in ArcMap. However, without 3D analyst, I had to | download an aml | to perform this drape | (http://www.or.blm.gov/gis/mapping/techniques/presentations/pa | inted_relief/n | ewrelief.asp). The usage is: | &run newrelief.aml <outgrid> <ingrid> <incolor.lut> <hillshade-grid> | The input grid is the categorical (soils) data. The | incolor.lut is a lookup | table, with values that correspond to the soils, and 3 columns that | represent red, green, and blue. | The output displays beautifully in ArcPlot using this command | reference: | gridpaint %outgrid% value identity nowrap %outgrid%.lut | How on earth to I get that lovely display in ArcMap? | Basically, there are 3 | columns that correspond to RGB in the outgrid.lut, but how do | I get ArcMap | to read those colors? | Thanks for your help! | Heather Gordon | | | To unsubscribe, write to gislist-unsubscribe@geocomm.com | ______________________________________________________________ | __________ | GeoCommunity GeoBids - less than $1 per day! | Get Access to the latest GIS & Geospatial Industry RFPs and bids | http://www.geobids.com | | Online Archive of GISList (and numerous others) available at: | http://spatialnews.geocomm.com/community/lists/ | | Setup a GeoCommunity Account and have access to | the GISDataDepot DRG & DOQQ Catalog | http://www.geocomm.com/login.php | | | ###########################################
