Subject: GISList: SUM - FIXED "Re: GISList: ArcInfo 8.3 support issue" THANK YOU!
Date:  07/11/2003 11:55:00 AM
From:  Anthony Quartararo

Dear Listers,

Thanks for the very speedy and very spot on tech support. Puts ESRI to
shame and they have the luxury of charging 30% maintenance ! Don't get any
ideas Glenn :-)

Fixed the problem with just a general search on the C: for all files with
dates from today through 7/11/04, and oddly enough, something was created on
7/9/04. I initially thought that since we work with so many overseas
consultants, that someone had sent us a doc or file from a difference time
zone and that would be the culprit, but a never-ending problem. But, once I
deleted the offending files (in my case, ZoneAlarmPro had somehow tagged a
log file with a future date), rebooted as suggested. Even F2 entering setup
to check the system date/time, and now ArcInfo works just fine. Thanks,
very much.

Now, a 2 second rant. Not being a software engineer, or even a bits n bytes
person, this approach of "searching" the entire hard drive(s) for ANY file
with a future date in order to authenticate the ESRI license manager, well,
frankly, smacks of being DUMB, DUMB, and really FUBAR DUMB. If this is a
normal and accepted practice by other [mainstream] ISVs, then pardon the
previous slam. If it is not, I'm speechless (for once :-) ).

Anthony
