Subject: RE: GISList: Extrude by Attribute...
Date:  07/31/2003 02:55:01 PM
From:  Kevin Whitlock

Robert...

You may be able to attach your DWG as a 'source drawing' to another, empty Map
Project DWG then create an Alter Properties Query to change the elevation of
the shapes (closed 3D polylines?) based on the attributes (object data?).

Your Alter Property Query Expression should read something like "Thickness
:ATTRIBUTE_NAME@ATTRIBUTE_TABLE". This will import all the attributed elements
from the source DWG into your active DWG and transform each element along the
way so that its 'thickness', or Z-dimension, is equal to its attribute. All
the resultant elements will be 3D 'solid' objects.

Thanks for bringing this one to my attention...it's a pretty cool Map function
that I had never tried but now I can think of a few great uses...3D bar graphs,
3D models, etc.

Good luck,
Kevin

Subject: GISList: Extrude by Attribute...

Hello all, sorry for the X-posting,

I have a dill of a pickle here. Using Autocad Map 2000i, I have buildings that
were imported to DWGs from SHP, that have attributes that designate a
"Roof_Elevation" and I need to Extrude the shape using that attribute. It's
easy to do in ArcMap, but I need to have these buildings completed in
AutoCadMap, DWG format.

As a side, I can extrude each building by "hand," inputting the actual roof
elevation, but since I have thousands of buildings in many cities, I was
wondering if there is some way for the EXTRUDE command to read off an
attribute. Or any other ideas that ya'll might have .

Thanks to all in advance...will sum at end.
