Does anyone know of a way to translate GTOPO30 (or Globe) into ESRI ASCII? I'm not sure if ESRI ASCII is the same thing as "ASCII grid" but the file format I need is just a grid of 16bit (I think) numbers that lay out somewhat like a grid in Textedit or BBEdit. A small header sits on top.
I work on a Mac and if I can just get it into an ascii matrix, I could manually place the required header there myself. So, how then can I can GTOPO30 (or any form of DEM) translated into an ascii file that will read as a "matrix" in BBEdit? All I need is the elevation data
I'm hoping that there will be a way to do this cheaply without having to buy something like FME. I s there a PC solution? I've got access to a 7 year-old PC running Win98 if necessary.
Thanks,
Joe LeMonnier
