Subject: [gislist] Crazy reprojecting problem
Date:  11/26/2003 07:15:01 AM
From:  Vassil Vassilev

Hi Listers,
I have a very crazy problem which I can't overcome.
I am using shape files which are digitized from maps in UTM WGS84
projection. The problem is that these maps were georeferenced in ENVI in the
following projection Gaus-Krueger (Pulkovo1942) without specifying the datum
and spheroid. Then these maps were reprojected in ENVI in UTM WGS84
(stranged because in ERDAS it is not possible to reproject without knowing
the datum and spheroid). So the digitized shape files are wrong (I checked
app. 150 m by X and 50 by Y).
Can I do something in order to repair the shapefiles?
What I intended to do was to go to ArcInfo and to reproject the UTM to
Gauss-Krueger (the same as Transverse Mercator) but whithout specifiyng the
datum and spheroid. Then to define again Gauss-Krueger projection but to
include the datum and spheroid and again to reproject to UTM.
The problem is that I could not define Transverse Mercator projection
whithout specifying the datum and spheroid and apparantly ArcInfo will not
allow me to reproject without knowing these parameters.

I would be grateful on any hint about how to do this (if it is possible).

Thanks in advance,
Vassil
