Subject: [gislist] Outside the Square
Date:  12/07/2003 09:05:00 AM
From:  Graeme Brooke

Every now and then on the Grime site I get a question that is WAY out there,
and this one is a beauty. I think the reference to "topological" can be read
"topographical". I told the guy I'd look around...

This was the question:

I admit it right up front: I don't understand your website, but I think the
answer to my problem is in it somewhere.

I am writing a Sci-Fi novel and would like to create a planet. I have tried
drawing one on a beach ball, but the scale does not lend itself to detail.
Flat maps are hard to visualize topology. Does any of the myriad of
software you list lend itself to creating a topological globe? Are there
any "entry level" ones (I would be starting from scratch).

If I can solve my problem without to much trouble and expense, I'm sure I
can interest other writers in the process.

Thank you,

Woody Hendrick

Over to you, Blue Leaders...

Ciao,
Graeme
