Hi Everyone --
I have a bunch of raster images which piece together to cover the state of CO with veg data. The problem I'm having is that each individual image consists of a rectangle despite the fact that the veg data it portrays is not a rectangle -- each one has a unique shape. The area around that unique shape and out to the edges of the rectangle is black. So, when I lay the files out, the black parts overlap and leave me with an illegible map.
Is there some way to clip away the black part of the image so that only the colored data show? I'm using ArcGIS 8.3 and I do have Spatial Analyst (though I'm a novice). Also, is there a name for the black part of the raster image?
Thanks,
