Outsourcing: For those interested in labor distribution, look for the Greater Area Action Plan (or something similarly named) - akin to training "maids in other lands" to do the house-work (read make toasters etc) while the owner concentrates his energies on higher-end technologies (read make satellites etc).
Related: The effect of NAFTA on the American labor market of the 90s is also well-recognized. Recently, a similar agreement for the Americas was signed. More at
