Subject: RE: [gislist] cluster or group points in AV3.2
Date:  01/07/2004 02:25:01 PM
From:  Rowe, John

Try gridding them, and then converting the grid to=20
a polygon based on similar attributes perhaps.
Depends on what data is represented by the points.
If no data is connected to the points, grid the Integer values of =
lon/lat of the points. May be a start.

Hope it helps
John

Subject: [gislist] cluster or group points in AV3.2

I sent out a request before Christmas for something similar, but didn't
get a useful response, so I am trying again - from a slightly different
angle.

My problem is this: I have a few hundred points on a map. I need to
group them (to make territories). Is there a script or a method to
cluster these into X points per territory. Or to divide the total into Y
territories and have ArcView group them. Sort of along the lines of
Thiessen polygons but for groups instead of individual points.=20

It would be best if I could work with selected points (to eliminate
small outlying clusters from the main calculation) but that could be
accomplished by removing the unwanted points first.

I do have both Spatial Analyst and Network Analyst available, if this
would help me.

If anyone has some ideas, or know of a script that already does this,
I'd love to hear from you.

Rick
