Hello listers and all who have offered suggestions so far,
It seems I need to offer a bit more detail (original question is at the bottom). If your response actually covers my question even with this new information, I apologize - I just haven't understood it.
My "overall" territory is most of the province of Ontario. I will have 350+ stations (all identical) spread out in a not very even distribution throughout the overall territory - i.e. in some regions the density is greater than others - sometimes significantly so. We need to divide these into service territories given that an individual can service X (+/-) number of stations in a day. In sparsely "populated" territories, the number will be less because driving time will increase. However, this will not likely greatly affect the overall results.
So... what I need to do is take a point file and divide it somehow into groups - either by specifying the number in a group or by specifying the number of groups.
Hope this clarifies my problem. rg
* * * * * * * * * * * Original Question:
My problem is this: I have a few hundred points on a map. I need to group them (to make territories). Is there a script or a method to cluster these into X points per territory. Or to divide the total into Y territories and have ArcView group them. Sort of along the lines of Thiessen polygons but for groups instead of individual points.
It would be best if I could work with selected points (to eliminate small outlying clusters from the main calculation) but that could be accomplished by removing the unwanted points first.
I do have both Spatial Analyst and Network Analyst available, if this would help me.
If anyone has some ideas, or know of a script that already does this, I'd love to hear from you.
