You are invited to participate in a free, one day conference and = discussion seminar on the development, application and future potential of visualization and multimedia technologies for wireless GIS and the = delivery of Location Based Services.
=20
The seminar will be held in the ARKive Theatre, Wildwalk building, = @Bristol and is open to members of the academic, public policy and commercial = sectors with an interest in the integration of mobile GIS and cartographic = display with the delivery of location based services. We will pay the travel = and accommodation costs of speakers. The conference is free for all = delegates, lunch will be provided and the conference will be followed by an = informal wine reception and dinner.
=20
You are invited to attend either as a member of the audience or as a presenter. Research presentations, discussion papers and demonstration projects are invited on the following or related topics:
=20
* 'Telecartography' and spatial data display for mobile devices (including feature selection, visualization, generalization and = rendering methods):=20
* The use of multimedia for mobile GIS:=20
* Wireless infrastructures and interactive mapping: 3G, 4G and beyond:
* Data privacy, data protection and ethical considerations:=20
* Exemplar projects, applications or prototypes.
=20
The conference will explore: the application of multimedia in wireless mapping devices: the use of cartographic display and visualization to = 'add value' to data: the visualization problems encountered for small screen devices such as PDAs: techniques for generalizing (or compressing) = complex geographic information: methods and protocols for 'on the fly' user positioning, data analysis and answering user-driven location = enquiries: efficient transmission of spatial data to wireless devices: and issues = of data privacy, spatial data management and ensuring user confidence.
=20
The event is being organised as part of the ESRC Transdisciplinary = Research Seminars Programme. It is coordinated by University College London's = Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis, in association with the School of = Computing, University of Glamorgan, the School of Geographical Sciences, = University of Bristol and the Geographical Information Science research group of the = Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers). The conference venue, At-Bristol, is "a unique destination bringing = science, nature and art to life. An immense =A397 million project, at-Bristol is = the core of a =A3450 million urban rejuvenation scheme, covering 11 acres = at the heart of Bristol's Harbourside area." It is conveniently situated = adjacent to Bristol's city centre (see: <http://www.at-bristol.org.uk/> www.at-bristol.org.uk).
=20
Places for the conference are strictly limited and will be allocated on = a 'first come, first served basis' but with priority given to = participants who wish to present a paper or demonstration project. Contributions from = Ph.D. students and 'young researchers' in the field are especially welcome.=20
