Or, look into the Arcview Document Saver (ODB) Extension.
Alternatively, if file-size/printer-configuration is not the issue here, try Geosnap from inside a new project. This would create a table for files included in your 3.x project along with their file-path status (whether the file-paths are valid or not). That then may help in finding the culprit file/folder.
Harsh PS: Note that the max. sz. of an ArcView table is 4 billion records.
