Subject: [gislist] Trimble GPS & Altitude
Date:  02/26/2004 02:45:01 PM
From:  Amin Davis

Hello LISTERS,

=20

I have a Trimble XRS Pro GPS receiver (v 1.52 firmware) w/
beacon antenna, Asset Surveyor datalogger (v 4.03) and Pathfinder Office
software (v 2.9). Can I receive sub-foot accuracy of altitude readings
using the DGPS radio link? If so, should I set my "Altitude ref" to =
"HAE" or
"MSL"? I've read the Asset Surveyor software guide repeatedly but don't =
have
enough cartography/geography knowledge to figure out which option is =
best
for accurate elevation readings. =20

Eventually the data (points) will be imported into ArcView 3.2a and
overlayed on aerial photography in the State Plane coordinate system: =
all I
want is an ASCII table with columns for Site ID, X,Y, & elevations in =
feet.
I realize that the more precise alternative is to take a survey rod, =
laser &
receiver and get elevations the old fashioned way.Any insights would be
appreciated.

=20

Thanks In Advance,

=20

A Davis
