Hi Listers,
Per the excerpt below, I have a pretty good understanding of the three-tiered structure, however, I am pretty cloudy on the two-tiered structure (does it require Oracle Spatial, for example?), and how it = works. Could someone please explain to me in layman's terms what the = differences are: and maybe some of the advantages/disadvantages of each?
Thanks in advance! Travis
Two-tiered vs. three-tiered architecture At 8.1, ArcSDE for Oracle8i=F4 and SQL Server provide two alternative methods of connecting to the database instance=F3 direct connection to the database instance in a two-tiered architecture or connecting to the ArcSDE service in a three-tiered architecture. If it is your intention to adopt the two-tiered approach then you need read no further. This guide is solely concerned with the administration of the ArcSDE service. Refer to the ArcSDE Configuration and Tuning Guide for your DBMS for more information regarding direct connection.
