Subject: Re: [gislist] HP 650 printer questions
Date:  04/19/2004 02:25:01 AM
From:  GS Rao

Listers,

We have been using HP 650 C and HP 750C in our organization for well over 9
years.
We have never faced any major problem with them. Yes, they are workhorses.
There have been several instances when we ran batch jobs for overnight
printing and it would
work just fine.

We have a contract with a local agency which does periodic preventive
maintenance.
This is probably one reason why they have worked so well.

Recently, however we noticed a small problem. We get error messages saying
the cartridge is out of ink,
when actually it isn't. Thankfully it hasn't happened too often. When it
did we simply
switched the printer off and then on again.

We have no problems with the resolution and quality of the plots. To get
best results use coated paper.
This is expensive and we use it for special occasions. (Conference Stalls,
exhibitions etc.)

I don't know about spares because we never had a major breakdown. (An
important point to consider is
how much of care the previous owners have bestowed on the printers.)
Cartridges are readily available
locally.

Tip: Try to assign one person dedicated to the printer. He/she should
learn how to do "nesting" so that
small-sized plots can be optimally positioned with minimal paper wastage.

Bottom line: Use it with care and it should give many years of service.
