I would be grateful of any advice on this. I=92m a MapInfo user, and = need to export some native TAB files keeping the MI text and labels information intact. MI has a cut-down FME utility inbuilt, called Universal = Translator (UT), but all text gets lost when the SHP-DBF-etc fileset is produced. =20 =A0 After looking on some of the open source GIS project areas, I discovered what everyone else knows, I guess - that SHP doesn't support text.=20
So what is the best procedure to get "text" (as text or labels) from = MapInfo into a form that can be used by a "SHP-consuming" GIS program? (I=92m = talking about a non-ESRI target =96 actually Canvas GIS). =A0 One idea I have is: (in MI) to put all "text" into attribute fields, = that are exported into the .DBF (accompanying .SHP), and then read that out = again within the "SHP-consuming" program.=20 =A0 Any help / suggestions welcome.=20 =A0 IL Thomas GeoSciSoft
