Subject: RE:[gislist] Getting MapInfo Text and labels into Shapefiles
Date:  04/23/2004 10:40:00 PM
From:  SRG

Hi Thomas,
What you have guessed is absolutely right, SHP does not support text.
Instead you have something called labels/ annotation of point features.
Text features are usually transferred as points (usually the insertion point
of the text feature) into SHP format.
Additionally you can add the text string as an attribute to this point
feature, probably change the colour to something invisible, if you want to
hide the points from being seen by the user.
Then once this point shape file is inside your application, you can set the
labels, which will appear like the text you had in MapInfo.
All this can be accomplished with the full version of FME Universal
Translator, a free 14 day fully functional evaluation copy can be downloaded
at this link:

Cheers
SRG
