Subject: RE: [gislist] San Francisco Bay Area high resolution imagery
Date:  04/28/2004 04:00:01 AM
From:  Richard Nicoll

Chris,

There are now three commercial high resolution satellite imagery
providers which will probably contain your area within their archives.
They are:

1. Space Imaging through their IKONOS satellite (1m pan, 4m multi)
Products: http://www.spaceimaging.com/products/ikonos/geo.htm
Archive:
http://carterraonline.spaceimaging.com/cgi-bin/Carterra/phtml/login.phtm
l

2. Digital Globe through their Quickbird2 satellite (60cm pan, 2.4m
multi)
Products: http://www.digitalglobe.com/product/index.shtml
Archive: http://archivetool.digitalglobe.com

3. Orbimage through their Orbview-3 satellite (1m pan, 4m multi)
Products: http://www.orbimage.com/prods/high_res.html
Archive: http://cabs.orbimage.com/citycov.html

In most cases, the archive works through an IMS-style browser allowing
you to search by image parameters such as acquisition date, cloud cover,
nadir angle, etc. If you dont like what you see you can task a new
image acquisition, although this is more expensive of course. Note that
Orbview-3 was recently launched so the archive will be quite small, the
other two have been up for a few years so will have a greater choice of
previously acquired imagery.

Satellite imagery can often be more cost effective than aerial
photography, but it will depend upon your requirements. I note that for
your desired spatial resolution you may require the pancromatic imagery,
which is supplied in black and white format which can be a barrier to
some uses...

Subject: [gislist] San Francisco Bay Area high resolution imagery

Hello All,

I am looking to acquiring up to date (no older than 30 months)
aerial/satellite high resolution (3" to 1 meter spatial resolution)
imagery for San Francisco Bay Area (mainly San Francisco, San Mateo and
Santa Clara counties).

I am wondering who are the most competitive and responsive providers
around and what the price range may be. Any input on the topic is much
appreciated.

Thank you,
Chris
