Thanks to all who tried to assist me in "exploding" a map of the US. Evidently, I was unable to make myself clear. I
had a map of the US and I had about 1500 points across the US. I needed to separate the states (physically move a group
of states) with accompanying points into four divisions (similar to the census divisions) and have all four divisions
appear on one layout. Of course, the first thing I had tried was to have four different views at the same scale and
bring them into the layout in four view frames. However, the problem I ran into was that the background in the
viewframe was not transparent. In order to have all four divisions in the layout, without the view frames overlapping
and obscuring the states in another viewframe, the result was that the four divisions were far apart and the actual
views of each division were quite small. I had hoped there was a way to group the states by each division with their
associated points, moving each group ever so slightly away from each other, so that the resulting visual of the US in
the layout would be fairly large (in comparison to the resulting visual of the divisions with four view frames). The
only way I could achieve what I wanted was to put the contiguous US and associated 1500 points into the layout in one
viewframe, then simplify the layout and then select states and associated points, and finally to group together and move
slightly. I was hoping that someone would know a way that the states and associated points could be highlighted
TOGETHER by tables (highlighting states in one theme while at the same time highlighting the points in another theme and
then saving them in unison), then pulling the division away. This way I would have been sure to get all associated
points in their proper location with the proper state. Even though I tried to edit themes in View, I had to edit each
theme individually and separate them individually so that the states division was moved at a different time from the
group of points. I could not find a way to move the two edited themes in unison. Perhaps there would have been a way
with a script. Thanks again to all of you who tried to assist me.
