Subject: [gislist] RE: San Francisco Bay Area high resolution imagery
Date:  05/03/2004 12:20:01 PM
From:  Alicia Torregrosa

Kelly,

I'm not sure if you are at the seamless.usgs.gov website or USGS' The
National Map website, my guess is seamless.usgs.gov since The National =
Map
viewer sends you to the seamless.usgs.gov website to download the
hi-resolution imagery. I just checked seamless.usgs.gov and it still h=
as
NOT been updated to reflect the fact that the high resolution imagery f=
or
SF Bay Area passed into the public domain a couple of weeks ago and can=
be
downloaded: the license agreement that requires that USGS wait 6 months=

after acquisition before placing data into the public domain has recent=
ly
expired for this data set. My suggestion, until the website is updated=
, is
to contact Customer Services at
U.S. Geological Survey EROS Data Center

Sioux Falls, SD 57198
Voice: 605-594-6151 or

Kelly

Hi Kelly,
You are correct, seamless.usgs.gov is where the data are available,
although if you want a large extent, you could call EROS directly and
place
your order. The truncation effect is such a mystery! Like you, I hav=
e
trouble getting into seamless.usgs.gov, the best times for access are
VERY
early in the morning. My guess is some enterprising souls are doing a
lot
of continuous (automatic?) downloading. To view the extent of the data=

I
suggest the National Map viewer
http://nationalmap.usgs.gov/nmjump.html
It is probably easiest, until everything gets smoothly operational, to
contact Customer Services at U.S. Geological Survey EROS Data Center an=
d
talk to them directly.
