Hi Nguyen, Basically, GIS are developed to use geographic data (both graphic and alphanumeric): CAD is drawing. GIS are not maps. These maps and citymaps (CAD) are just one way to represent spatial data. You can manage and analyze data with a GIS, and you can use maps to see the representation of those elements. That is why you can begin understanding what databases are, and then you will see the diference among CAD and GIS products. It is easy to begin. You will discover in ArcView that a line is not line, but a representation of one real linear element of the world, stored in your Arcview database. Good luck
