Subject: RE: [gislist] ArcGIS 9 - recommend postponing installation
Date:  06/01/2004 02:05:01 PM
From:  Analisa Gunnell

Thanks to the community, I can now humbly say that the "cross-walk"
issue that I was griping about between ArcGIS 9.0 and ArcSDE 8.3 was a
misnomer. It seems that I was hung up on using the DirectConnect
option, instead of reverting an Application Connect. I owe Skip Cody a
huge amount of gratitude (and precious time saved) for helping me figure
this one out (unlike ESRI Tech Support...I must have worded my problem
pretty poorly). Read Skip's email below if you too are facing similar
ArcSDE connection issues:

"You can do what you want to do with an application connect and not a
direct connect.

You need to add a line to your service file located at
C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetc

<service name> <port number>/<protocol> [aliases...] [#<comment>]
esri_sde 5151/tcp #sde server
connection

Then use esri_sde as your instance 5151 is the port we use not sure
about yours

Skip Cody"

Thanks again everyone!!! This community never ceases to amaze me!
