Subject: [gislist] SUM Data Projection Woes
Date:  06/03/2004 02:15:00 PM
From:  Michele Mattix

Greetings List --

In my quest to better understand how data projections and datums work, I am
grateful to those of you who helped me out. My problem was that I was
trying to project a grid into another projection and I was, as I've since
discovered, using the "define projection" tool in arctoolbox (I'm using 8.3
desktop) instead of the "project" tool to try and reproject my DEM data.
That much I understand. I ran into a snag, though, in using the "project
wizard" because it does not allow me to use a grid as input -- nor any
raster. Which is a bummer. So, I tried a few tricks that were sent along
to me, including:

*downloading a program which does just that from ESRI's website -- it
crashed while I used it.

*converting my grids to point shapefiles and trying to project them -- no
good either.

*using the "project raster" program which is found in the files that come
along with ArcGIS (in the folder: arcgis--arcexe83--ArcObjects Developer
Kit --Samples--Raster) -- but sadly that did not work either.

So, I've re-downloaded the DEM data and will try again. I have another
question which I will post in another message. Thank you for all of the
excellent suggestions!

Michele
