Hello List,
Well, what a long, strange trip it has been figuring out my projection
problemettes. And it all boils down to this -- I bought some DEM data from
mapmart.com and the projection they included was wrong. So, assuming that
their projection data were correct, I defined my DEM data to the wrong
projection. That's why it wouldn't line up. Projection on the fly won't
work unless all data files are properly and correctly defined.
Once I suspected the projection data were wrong, I did an internet search
to find what the DEM projection should be, got a few different ones to try,
and finally got it right.
Moral of the story -- Caveat Emptor -- buyer beware!
Thanks for everyone's help on this -- I learned a lot about a very gray
area.
