Subject: RE: [gislist] GIS Certification?
Date:  06/10/2004 01:25:01 PM
From:  Anthony Quartararo

ESRI cannot afford NOT to "support" it. If all of ESRI's people were
suddenly certified, will it make them better professionals? Does anyone
really believe that ?

Speaking of other certifications programs [none ring a bell, except the PMP
from PMI], has any other really mattered? Land surveying is a legal
matter, hence the state by state requirement, and this is a good thing, and
more power to them, geodesy is not for the faint of heart, but how do you
gauge a persons qualification in seeing a spatial problem and solving it ?
Are the right answers, or only answers that are better than others.

As I have said in much earlier posts (several months back), it should be
market-driven: that is, professional darwinism. Yes, I said that. Those
than cannot adapt, see the future, are destined to become extinct, if not
gobbled up by the bigger, smarter, faster fish in the sea. When you put in
place obstacles to those forces [which are natural in every process], then
you dilute the profession and industry [aka. Collective bargaining
agreements, sticking with the industry leaders just because, etc.]
