Calling all disenfranchised ESRI users:
I (somewhat regretfully) admit that I use ArcGIS mostly for my GIS work,
but I am a big fan of Manifold GIS. The interface isn't quite as clean
as ArcView, but I think you get a whole lot more for your money. Not to
mention, what you see is what you get - with the ArcGIS package what you
see isn't necessarily what you'll get. Manifold uses/manipulates all the
major spatial data formats .SHP, .MIF, you name it. I recommend it to a
lot of folks who are using ArcView and don't want to spend a few more
grand on Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst (Manifold can do many of the
same tasks as those extensions for a tiny fraction of the price).
