Subject: [gislist] GIS in Flash presentation at FlashForward 2004, 7/7
Date:  06/24/2004 04:35:03 PM
From:  FB`

Thought this might be of some interest on this list:

Geographic Information Systems in Flash, Gramercy Park, 7/7/2004, 1:30
PM - 2:30 PM

Jim Armstrong, 2112 F/X

GIS (Geographic Information Systems) applications often involve
interactive display and decision support based on geo-coded
(latitude-longitude) data. This session provides an overview of
dynamic mapping and plotting of such data. In this session, Armstrong
deconstructs an actual XML-driven application, "3D Artists Around the
World." The dynamic, data-driven nature of the application requires
all animation to be scripted, so a general-purpose extension of the
MovieClip class is explored, along with application planning,
production issues, and AS 2 Class architecture, including the use of
message-passing to choreograph animations.

Armstrong is a freelance 3D animator whose clients range from Boeing
and The Sabre Group to Temerlin McClain. With a background in
mathematics and aerospace engineering, he has worked on applications
ranging from large-scale business decision analytics to plugins for
high-end 3D software packages. Armstrong is now developing GIS
(Geographic Information Systems) in ActionScript 2.
