Subject: RE: [gislist] quick symbology/legend question

From:  Zach Travis

if you create a lyr file, it will save the current datasource. so unless the
datasource is removed from its path or deleted
the layer file will display the data source w/ symbology.

..and to use this layer/legend with a new dataset you first have to add
the lyr to the map, and then set the data source afterwards (opposite to
3.x)

you can save right click the layer and select "save as layer file". this
will save all of your symbologies,
label and display properties.

Subject: [gislist] quick symbology/legend question

Hello!

In ArcView you can save AVL (legend files) - how do you do that with
ArcMap using ArcInfo? I can see where you can import an .avl or take
the symbology from another layer in the layer properties, but can't see
where you can save it...

Thank you!
