Subject: [gislist] Groundwater Vista and background images
Date:  06/25/2004 09:25:02 AM
From:  PHILIP GREYSON

Good morning all

A colleague is trying to use georeferenced aerials or topo maps in
Groundwater Vista as backdrops but the version of Groundwater Vista will
only display Surfer Grids (as well as shapefiles and dxf files.
Although the latest version of Groundwater Vista supports other image
formats, the version he uses doesn't). We're trying to figure out a way
to convert either DOQs or DRGs to a Surfer Grid, using ArcView 3.x. I
thought perhaps one could convert the image to a grid in ArcView
(various extensions to do this), and then convert the Grid to a Surfer
Grid (there's also an extension to do this).

Are there any other ways to get from Image (jpg, tif) to Surfer Grid
that would be easier? Am I making it more complex than I should?

Thanks and will SUM
