in addition, because the world is a 'sphere', the nadir footprint in a
projection would distort toward the poles as latitude increases - so you
cant simply have one polygon outline.
nadir footprint is roughly 11x11km

IKONOS does not have fixed footprints, as the satellite is "pointable"
