Subject: RE: [gislist] DGPS
Date:  07/08/2004 08:30:01 AM
From:  Neil Havermale

There are several ways to get DGPS: from the WAAS/SABAS satellite arrays,
from public broadcasting like the US Coast Guard via AM radio, from
commercial satellite like Omnistar, or by your own packet radios and
benchmark. If your device can do post processing you can correct via RINEX
or like proprietary methods. Guessing from your email, I would suggest you
look at Omnistar.com as it is just about available worldwide. It does
require a subscription but its quality is very good and can deliver
sub-meter accuracy if you GPS solution has carrier smoothing (see Trimble
AgGPS 132). Many mid-range GPS receivers (over $1500US) can access the
Omnistar signal and if so its antenna and power are simplified.

If you are in the US or Europe I would suggest Garmin or Magellan and WAAS
differentials. If in other regions you'll need a RTCM DGPS solution if
available. For post processing the RINEX standard is the most open.

Hope these notes help...

Hi,

Does anybody have some information about which GPS unit is the best to use
with DGPS accuracy ( less than 3m)

Thanks
Craig
