Hi
I'd agree that this statement is oversimplified, but the context of the report is not focused on major technicalities.
I heard a rumour once in an old work environment that a GIS manager was 'released from duty' because of his tendancy for over-simplification - in other words he constantly hyped the benefits of GI technology and neglected to mention the rest of the picture, such as set up costs, development time, etc. It wasnt long before the penny dropped, and potential clients fled in panic taking their pots of gold with them...
GIS can of course help solve many problems and has great potential, but it must be assessed in context if it is to grow as an industry and people not to become dis-illusioned! I would be interested to hear if any other listers have experienced his trouble...?

Hi all,
Ran across this article this AM and noted with interest the following quote...
..."GIS programs are relatively straightforward to use. First, you create a map with different features -- points, lines and regions -- that are coded according to a map coordinate system"...
Interesting remark considering its targetted at the potential user. Rather under estimated a bit though wouldn't you say??
