I have a question about the cut/fill function in ArcMap. I will try to explain in as little words as possible what I am trying to accomplish, without boring you all with all the little details! I am starting with a set of points that have a “Text” number associated with them that represents the depth recorded by a depth sounder for the same location at different times. I am taking these points and creating TINs out of them and then using Spatial Analyst to create a Cut/Fill to access any change. Before creating the TINs, I am changing the values of that “text” two ways by adding two additional fields to the Attribute Table. 1. Multplied by -1 (the original number is positive) 2. subtracting a constant value in order to normalize the depth according to the surrounding unaffected seafloor (I am looking at injuries to seagrass beds caused by boat ground outs). This step is important in order to get a realistic ratio of change. When this step is done, I have a field that contains positive and negative values (some parts of the injury end up with a higher elevation than the surrounding floor). For some reason, the program isn’t properly subtracting positive and negative values. PROBLEM: the cut/fill only shows me ‘net gain’ and ‘unchanged’ (although there are many parts of the injury that actually have a net loss of sediment). I have tried running the Cut/Fill without the last part of normalizing the depth and it worked fine. Is this a glitch in the program? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!! It seems like such a simple process so I am confused.
Thanks!!
