Subject: RE: [gislist] Spreadsheet (Excel) macro to GIS script/extension!
Date:  09/01/2004 09:10:02 AM
From:  Ivan Lucena

Paul,

In Idrisi there is a PDF document that you can access by the main menu
"Modeling>COM API Documentation" that is called "IDRISI Applications
Programming Interface User's Guide".

As you can see in this document you can use VBA or Python as a Scripting
Language. You can also use TCL, LUA or Perl or any other scripting language
that support COM in Windows O.S. You can use Programming Languages Tool.

But if you are familiar with Excel looks like the easiest path will bee VBA.
So take a look at the section "6. A VBA Example: Macro Scripting". Basically
what you have to do is to open VBA in Excel "Tools>Macros>V.B. Editor": add
reference to Idrisi COM Server "Tools>Reference" and then you will be able
to develop your logic as shown in this short example.

Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
Dim success As Integer
success = idrisi32.RunModule("filter", inname + "*" + ouname +
"*6*1*1*1*1*10*1*1*1*1*0", True, "", "", "", "", True)
success = Idrisi32.DisplayFile(ouname, "qual", 0, 1, 2, 2, 0, True, "")
End Sub

I' am not sure but I think that the same apply for the other two GIS
software.

Good luck,

Ivan

Subject: [gislist] Spreadsheet (Excel) macro to GIS script/extension!

Dear list-member,

We are working with an agro-metrological model "written" and running in
Excel (Visual Basic) and would like to integrate it as extension into one of
the GIS (ArcGIS, Idrisi, soon Manifold) we use.

Unfortunately our programming knowledge/abilities are rather scarce. Before
starting of and wasting time we are looking for some opinion on how
difficult this task is for a novice / for an expert and some advise on how
to approach it.

Any input is appreciated!

Thank you very much,

Paul
