Dear Brian,
There're differences between input data remotely via web, and update/edit to existing spatial data.
Each has its own technique.
It's not recommeded that you edit/update spatial data remotely, and if you need to do so in the right way, taking into consideration security issues and volume & nature of spatial data, it'll cost high.
However, collecting data from site & sending it to spatial data store, is a straight forward task, and you send the data in text file and then its imported to the data store.
