Subject: [gislist] SUM: Intersecting points and polygons

Hello everyone,

Thank you very much to everyone for replying my email. Here are sum of =
some
of the answers I got. I hope you find as useful as I did:

"In ArcView 3.x, first you would select your polygon or polygons. Next =
you
select your point theme in the Table of Contents to make it active. Then
choose Theme/Select By Theme. When the window appears, pick intersect as =
the
spatial operation, and pick the polygon theme from the list. This will
select all the points within a selected polygon. "

Cynthia T. wrote:
"You need to perform a spatial join. Just join the two tables on the =

Arlete O. wrote:

This
routine allows intersect two shape using the table."

Noel G. wrote:
"Use the Geoprocessing tool that comes with AV 3x. Use the spatial join
option which will overlay the polygon attributes over the point =
features."

Kristen L. wrote:
"In arcview 3x, you can call up the select by theme dialog box under the
theme menu. Then you can choose to select all features of your active
point theme that are within your selected polygon theme."

Steve A. wrote:
"With Arcview 3x simply use the theme - select by theme menu choice =

first selected your polygon of interest) - this will give you all the =
points
intersecting that polygon. Then repeat for each polygon. Alternatively =
join
the polygon table to the points table - and you will have each point =

the relevant details of the polygon in which it resides"

Jon M. wrote:

All of them were prety useful. Thanks again a lot.

Cheers
