create a layer file. .lyr . right click the dataset in the table of contents and select "create layer file". store the layer file on your computer. when you add data add the layer file.

Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if someone could help me with a little issue. I wanted to know if it was possible to save the colour information to a shapefile in ArcView or ArcMap? You can do this in MapInfo, but I am not too sure if you can do this in an ESRI product. I would like the colour info to be saved to the shapefile. So for example, when I open a river it is always that shade of blue, rather than the random colour ESRI inputs.
Thanks,
