ArcGIS 9----
I am wondering what the best process might be for labeling a roads layer with one’s own style set(marker symbols). In the past, I have either converted polylines into point files and then labeled those with my specific symbols but what I am really trying to replicate is ArcGIS’ automatic labeling, but for HWY symbols of my choice. The one’s I am using can’t be imported because they are “marker” type symbols and can’t be used on lines. The other way I have done this in the past is to create a point shape file with my intended “symbol locations” specified, and then I just use this layer for symbolizing. Both ways are time consuming so, if anyone has a better method, I am all ears.
