Subject: [gislist] Defining user-defined datum in ArcGIS
Date:  10/11/2004 02:15:01 AM
From:  Vassil Vassilev

Hi all,
I have a shapefile which is in a local national projection. This projection
is not supported in ArcGIS, that is why I want to define it in the Data
Frame Properties of ArcMap and than to change it to UTM.
The problem is that I could easily define the parameters of the projection -
it is LAMBERT:
1st standard parallel
2nd standard parallel
central meridian
latitude of projection's origin
false easting
false northing

but I want also to define the datum which is with 7 parameters. The spheroid
is Krasovsky.
So what I could not do is to set these 7 parameters for the datum and to
save it in the ArcGIS system datums in order to use it later.

Any help how to define diferent datums from what is available in ArcGIS will
be highly appreciated.

I could of course go in Arc: but than I have to convert shape to arc
coverage and than to use PROJECT. The problem is that the shapefile is realy
big and when I clean it I loose a lot of information. That is why I want to
reproject the shapefile and not the coverage.

Thanx a lot.

Vassil
