Subject: [gislist] [AV] RE: plotter and large format printer recommendations
Date:  11/05/2004 10:35:01 AM
From:  RICK GRAY

Can't help with your specific choices, but I have been using the HP cp1700 for 2
years now.

It is a real workhorse, does very nice work, and will handle up to 13 X19 size
paper and is reasonably fast. Good, free tech support. And I like the way it
displays ink levels so you know when to buy more cartridges. I pump out
thousands of pages a month with it, virtually trouble free (any problems are
almost always user induced!)

My 2 cents.

We are looking at buying a new plotter and large format printer. We are
looking for a 42" plotter and a printer that will print tabloid (11x17).
Both need to have a network print server. We have looked at a HP 800 series
plotter and HP 2600 or HP 1250. We are also looking at the Epson stylus pro
9600 and the Epson stylus 1520 or 2200. We will be printing from both
ArcView 3.3 and ArcGis 9.0 (no arc press printing). Has any body had any
good experiences with these printers? Which ones should I stay away from?
I would like to know both the pros and cons of these or other printers that
you use or would recommend. Obviously, price is an important aspect of the
decision making process, as we have a limited budget.

Thanks

Kevin
