Subject: Re: [gislist] Generating perpendicular lines

From:  Lucius Koshy - AlbireoSTS, Inc.

Cynthia,

I ran your comments by our CTO, Dr. M. Srikanth and below are his =
comments,

Interesting problem, yes this should be easily possible to develop the =
the script if the stream line is single. If the stream is indicated as =
double line, a central line is to drawn first.=20

There is no ready script with us. A small routine / a scipt (MapObjects, =
mapx) can be created so that it takes the starting point of the center =
line as start node and at a pre-defined regular distance from that =
point, the program can create a line perpendicular to the stream's =
central line. This line will cut across the stream at 90 degrees at =
every point. These lines can then be exported to their modeling software =
for creating cross sections (ground profiling).

Let me know if you would like us to assist you further with your needs.

Subject: [gislist] Generating perpendicular lines

We are looking for a way to generate lines perpendicular to a stream.
We need a systematic way to input a set distance and add nodes along the
line at that distance then generate perpendicular lines on both sides of
a stream. Does anyone know of an AML, Avenue script, or VB script that
will do this? We want to automate our input to HEC-GEORAS for the
"cross-sections".

Thank you,
dt
