We have had a few complaints from home users on some of our Online = mapping, i.e., viewing PDF maps on our P&Z Agenda Website. Takes too long = to open files if files open at all. So I asked for a 'test' downloading = the file(s) at home and then opening the files rather than opening from = our Website: no further comments from that suggestion.*
The Webmaster suggested the following: reduction in file size: remove = layers: export at lower res. The export at lower res actually 'crunches' = the text: the less detailed views wouldn't work either (not that much = smaller size and don't remove basic features that were previously provided = in a public process: looks like you're trying to hide something!
The question: Does an alternative software (ESRI or Web Design) further = reduce PDFs for publication on a Website without any loss in detail and = resolution? The typical size of the PDFs I create range from 0.2-0.8 MBs: = with DOQQs, that's up to 20 MBs/PDF. In either case the Webmaster has a = system problem with posting that range of PDFs.
* Note: I only have an Internet viewer at home, no high speed connection. = If you would care to 'test' the download please do and please forward any = findings, good, bad, or not? Just scroll down the Agenda list and click = any PDF 'Location Map' at http://www.co.hernando.fl.us/plan/2004Agendas.htm=
Thanks!
