I think AutoCad Map is the only version that will import SHPs, but I'll = ask this anyway: are you using AutoCad Map? If not, I don't think you = can do it.
If you are, there are several places you can get snagged. You must "import attribute data" during "mapimport." You must create an annotation template (it's like a block). In the = Annotation text dialog box, "Value" is where you pick the attribute you = want to display. You must save the annotation template. It will close and return to the = original dwg. You must then goto Map > Annotation > Insert Annotation Template. That = should do it.
Read every bit of every dialog box. It's can be subtle.

Dear list, I have a town .shp file with names as an attribute. I am trying to export this to display town locations and town names in AutoCad. I have been able to export the town locations, but cannot seem to get the right procedure to create the annotation layer.
Thanks in advance.
